Understanding Categories
How categories organize your spaces and what you can see on the Categories page.
What are categories?
Categories are groups of similar spaces at your facility. Think of them as “types” of units — a way to organize your inventory and set consistent pricing.
Common examples:
- “10×10 Standard Units”
- “Covered RV Storage”
- “Outdoor Parking Spots”
- “Climate-Controlled Units”
Every space belongs to exactly one category. When you create a category, you set the default daily rate and deposit amount — then every space in that category inherits those prices unless you override them individually.
The Categories page
The Categories page (in the main navigation) gives all staff a quick, read-only overview of how your facility is organized.
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Cat-ID | Unique identifier for the category (e.g., CAT-A, CAT-10X10) |
| Category Title | Descriptive name (e.g., “10×10 Standard”) |
| Total Spaces | How many spaces are in this category |
| Available Spaces | How many are currently ready to rent |
Available spaces badge
| Badge color | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Green | At least one space is available |
| Red | Every space is rented or unavailable |
This gives you an instant answer to “Do we have any 10×10 units?” without clicking into anything.
Finding a category
Use the search box at the top to filter by Cat-ID or title. Type “Climate” to find your climate-controlled category, or “CAT-B” to jump to a specific one. The list filters as you type.
Jumping to spaces in a category
Click any Cat-ID link to go directly to the Spaces page with that category pre-filtered. It’s the fastest way to answer “What outdoor spots do we have available?”
Categories vs. Administration → Categories
| This page | Administration → Categories |
|---|---|

If you need to create or change categories, see Categories Setup.
Common questions
Why do some categories show 0 available? All spaces in that category are either rented or suspended. Check the Spaces page to see individual space statuses.
How do I add a new category? Categories are managed in Administration → Categories. Only admins can create or edit them.
What’s the difference between categories and tags? Categories define what a space is (its type and default pricing). Tags are flexible labels for additional organization — like “Premium,” “Ground Floor,” or “Near Loading Dock.” A space has one category but can have many tags.
