Spaces Setup
Add, edit, and manage individual storage units — single or bulk creation, pricing overrides, and tags.
What are spaces?
Spaces are your individual storage units — each rentable area in your facility. Every space belongs to a category and inherits its default pricing, but you can override pricing on a per-space basis.
To get here: Go to Administration → Spaces.
The spaces screen
- Left side: category filter dropdown, search box, and paginated list of spaces
- Right side: details of the selected space or the create/edit form
Creating a single space
- Select a category from the filter dropdown
- Click Create New Space
- Fill in the fields below
- Click Create Space
Fields
| Field | Required | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Category | Yes | Which category this space belongs to (locked after creation) |
| Space ID | Yes | Auto-generated (CAT-A-01, CAT-A-02…) or custom number (toggle “Use custom space ID”) |
| Space Title | No | Friendly name like “Corner Unit - Extra Light” (max 255 chars) |
| Daily Rate Override | No | Leave empty to use the category default; enter a value to charge differently |
| Deposit Override | No | Leave empty to use the category default |
| Notes | No | Internal notes about the space (max 1,000 chars) |
| Tags | No | Check any tags you’ve created in Tags |
Bulk creating spaces
When you need to add many spaces at once (up to 50):
- Click Bulk Create
- Select a category
- Enter how many spaces to create
- Review the preview of IDs that will be generated
- Click Create Spaces
Bulk-created spaces get sequential IDs, generic titles (“Space 1”, “Space 2”…), and category default pricing. Edit them individually to add details.
Editing a space
- Click a space in the list
- Click Edit Space
- Make changes and click Save Changes
You can change everything except the category — that’s locked after creation. To move a space to a different category, delete it and create a new one.
Deleting a space
You can only delete spaces that are not currently rented (status is Available). If the space is checked out, vacate the renter first.
Deletion is permanent and removes all rental history for that space.
When to use overrides
- Premium spaces worth more than others in their category → daily rate override
- Promotional units with a reduced deposit → deposit override
- Unique features like drive-up access or electrical outlets → rate override + notes
If most spaces in a category need different rates, consider creating a new category instead.
Spaces vs. categories vs. tags
| Use… | When… |
|---|---|
| Categories | Spaces have different base pricing or are fundamentally different types |
| Tags | You need cross-category labels for filtering (e.g., “Ground Floor,” “Near Elevator”) |
| Overrides | One or two spaces in a category need different pricing |
Common questions
Can I change a space’s category? No. Delete the space and create a new one in the correct category.
How many spaces can I have? No system limit, but your subscription plan may have a space cap.
Can I bulk edit spaces? Not currently. Use bulk create for initial setup, then edit individually.
What’s the difference between Space ID and Space Title? Space ID is the unique identifier (CAT-A-01). Space Title is an optional friendly name (“Corner Unit”). If no title is set, the ID is used as the display name.
